Linden Stud is 924 metres above sea level in the picturesque hills of Grabben Gullen – 8kms from Crookwell and half an hour from the Sydney/Melbourne Freeway. Grabben Gullen is half an hour from Goulburn and Gunning. The 25 acre property has loam soil and a cool climate which we find perfect for producing healthy, happy animals.

Welsh Mountain Ponies

Jan’s love of Welsh ponies started when an aunt gave Jan and her sister two part-Welsh ponies to learn to ride upon. Gypsy Midget (an 11.2hh very Welsh looking pony) taught us to ride and won numerous ribbons at local shows. This memory stayed with Jan of a very cute Thelwell type of pony. In July 1999 Jan decided to purchase a driving pony (as her health made it hard for her to sit upright unsupported). Congarinni Cadet (Wokie) was Jan’s first pure Welsh pony and it was love at first sight. He was such a character, and very willing to please. By 2002 he was NSW Driven Dressage Champion which was a huge feat for the cheeky chap as Jan and Ian found out later – ‘broken to harness’ actually meant put into a trotting gig and driven around the trotting track twice! After ‘Wokie” only Welsh ponies would do.

The next purchase of note was ‘Grace’ (Millise Reflection), who after one week at the breaker’s  had the temperament to become a very kind, supple and successful dressage pony in open company. Her first test was conducted in a gale.

In 2009 Jan and Ian decided to start breeding Welsh Mountain ponies and set up Linden Stud – registering the name and acquiring a website. Over the next two years Jan brought some mares and sorted through and retained 10 quality mares. These mares will be the basis of the stud and it will be interesting to see their progeny. Their aim is to breed true Welsh ponies with elegance, bone, movement and good temperaments.

Belted Galloways

These are a Scottish breed of cattle that are very hardy and intelligent. The Belted Galloway stud was started from three cows and calves brought from Hawkeshead stud (with Eve Cullen’s advice) in 2006. Their aim with the stud is to breed 100% belties with no outside infusion so the animals are genetically a pure heritage line. Currently there are two females that are purely commercial (97%). Munro Park Sissy (Sam) was one of the first group purchased and is the foundation cow of the herd – she has produced 4 heifers to date of good quality. The cows have been inseminated with imported Scottish semen or served by 100% beltie bulls. This has resulted in quality calves with good bloodlines.
